Contents
Per 5 mL Salbutamol 1 mg, guaifenesin 50 mg
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & relief of asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema & other bronchopulmonary disorders involving bronchospasm in adults & childn ≥2 yr. Guaifenesin: Symptomatic relief of resp conditions & mucus presence in resp tract.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 2-3 tsp bd-tds, 6-12 yr 1-2 tsp bd-tds, 2-6 yr 1 tsp bd-tds.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salbutamol or guaifenesin. Coexisting HTN, heart disease & thyrotoxicosis. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Monitor for signs of seriously worsening asthma. Discontinue use for 48 hr prior collection of urine specimen. Pregnancy & lactation. Tocolysis; increased fetal heart rate & neonatal hyperglycemia.
Adverse Reactions
Fine tremor of skeletal muscle, small increase in heart rate; urticaria; rash. Salbutamol: CNS stimulation, malaise, emotional lability, fatigue, nightmares, aggressive behavior, lightheadedness, disturbed sleep, irritability, bronchitis, nasal congestion, sputum increase, epistaxis, hoarseness, increased appetite, stomachache, muscle cramps & spasm, pallor, conjunctivitis, anorexia, teeth discoloration, dyspepsia, dilated pupils, epigastric pain, micturition difficulty, voice changes, angioedema, bronchospasm, oropharyngeal edema, erythema multiforme, SJS. Guaifenesin: Nausea, vomiting, GI discomfort, dizziness, headache.
Drug Interactions
Inhibited cardiac, bronchodilating & vasodilating effects w/ β-blockers. Worsened ECG changes & hypokalemia w/ diuretics. Decreased digoxin serum levels. Increased renal clearance for urate & lowered serum uric acid levels. Increased urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid & interfered test interpretation in carcinoid syndrome diagnosis. Falsely elevated vanillylmandelic acid test for catechols.
