Instructions for Use: Look at the Famila 28F blister pack. It has 21 white (active birth control) tablets and 7 brown coated tablets (each containing Ferrous Fumarate).
For maximum effectiveness, Famila 28F tablets must be taken as directed; the possibility of pregnancy increases with each successive day that scheduled while tablets are missed.
Before the patient begins taking Famila 28F tablets wait until the next menstrual period starts; meantime use an alternative contraceptive method.
Direction to Use: Swallow the first white tablet opposite the pointing arrow of the first pack on the first day of onset of the patient's menstrual period. Follow the arrow direction and everyday swallow one white tablet (until all 21 tablets are finished) and then swallow one brown coated tablet daily for 7 days. Do not skip any day between tablets.
Take each tablet, usually at the same time each day, preferably after the evening meal. Taking it after dinner helps the patient remember to take it regularly.
Continue Using: The day after the patients has taken the last brown coated tablet, begin a new week pack of Famila 28F tablets again taking one tablet daily for 21 days, followed by 1 brown coated tablet daily for 7 days just as the patient did before. Thus, regularly take a tablet everyday without interruption. Do not skip any day between packs. Even if the menstrual period has not ended.
Associated Adverse Changes: The patient may/can have some discomfort such as sickness in the stomach or spotting of blood (bleeding), continue taking tablets as directed and this will probably disappear after one or two packs of medication. Consult the doctor if bleeding is persistent or for any problem which may bother the patient.
The menstrual period will usually occur during the time the patient is taking the brown coated tablets. Do not be alarmed if the amount of bleeding is not same as before.
In rare instances there may be no menstrual period after a cycle of Famila 28F tablet. If the patient has taken the tablets as directed continue as before. However, if the patient did not take the white tablet as directed (missed 1 or more white tablets) or started them on a day later than they should have, and miss a period, or if the patient missed 2 successive menstrual period even though the patient followed directions, see the doctor promptly since pregnancy should be ruled out before the patient continues medication. Alternate method of birth control should be used during this time. (i.e condoms).
Missed Tablets: If the patient missed a white tablet for 1 day, it should be taken as soon as remembered, and take the next white tablets at the usual time. This means the patient should take 2 white tablets in one day but thereafter continue with the schedule.
If 2 consecutive white tablets are missed take 2 white tablets to have the next day. Then continue to take 1 white tablet daily followed by one brown coated tablet daily in usual sequence until the patient finishes the pack.
Caution: Anytime the patient misses 1 or 2 white tablets or begin a pack after the proper starting day (i.e later than first day of the menstrual period) the patient should also use another method of birth control until the patient has taken a white tablet for 7 consecutive days.
In the case of most recently missed white tablet, and if fewer than 7 white tablets are left in the pack discard this pack and start with the first white tablet of a new pack of Famila 28F tablet and then continue to take 1 white tablet daily in the usual sequence. This will mean the patient may not have a period until near the end of the pack in use, but this will not harm the patient.
If the patient forgets to take 3 or more white tablets in a row, do not take them when remembered. Discard the rest of the pack and start a fresh pack of Famila 28F tablet with the first white tablet as soon as the patient remembers. During the days without tablets and until the patient has taken one white tablet daily for 7 consecutive days, the patient should protect themselves by using another birth control method. The patient may not have period until the end of the new pack and this is normal. However, if the patient missed the periods 2 months in a row, consult a doctor.
If the patient misses any of the 7 brown coated tablets, just throw away the brown coated tablet the patient missed and keep taking 1 brown coated tablet each day until the pack is finished. The patient does not need the back-up method. However, the patient begins their next pack of Famila 28F tablet (again swallowing the first white tablet) the very next day and continue taking 1 tablet every day following the proper sequence.
NOTE: Please note that if for any reason the patient has heavy vomiting or diarrhea, Famila 28F tablet like most medicines can not work effectively. Use another method of birth control until the patient has been well and taking the white tablets for seven consecutive days.
Famila 28F tablet have been prescribed specially for the patient: do not give it to others who may want birth control tablet. They should consult their own doctor or the family welfare clinic.
