Not indicated as an as-needed analgesic. Do not increase the dose above the recommended & administer only for a limited period (except in cases of malignant processes). Concomitant use w/ benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants, including alcohol, may result in profound sedation, resp depression, coma, & death. Hypoglycaemia (unknown frequency) has been observed in the context of methadone overdose or dose escalation. Regular monitoring of blood sugar is recommended during dose escalation. Limit dosages & durations to the min required. Observe patients for signs & symptoms of resp depression & sedation. Accidental consumption of even 1 dose, especially by childn, can result in a fatal overdose. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
