Not to be started in patients w/ gouty arthritis (gout attack) until symptoms have disappeared. Continue treatment w/o changing dose level if gouty arthritis (gout attack) occurs during treatment; add colchicine, NSAIDs, &/or corticosteroids according to patient's condition. Increase water intake & alkalinize the urine to prevent urinary calculus. Monitor patient's acid-base balance; periodic LFTs during treatment. Concomitant use w/ pyrazinamide & salicylates (eg, aspirin). Consider alternative treatment in patients w/ severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m
2). Not to be administered in patients w/ oliguria or anuria. Closely monitor patients w/ hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
