Cyproterone acetate 2 mg, ethinylestradiol 0.035 mg
Indications/Uses
OC. Androgen-dependent diseases in women eg, acne.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab daily for 21 days starting on the 1st day of menstruation, then 7 tab-free days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Dubin-Johnson syndrome, Rotor syndrome. Sickle-cell anaemia, current or treated breast or endometrial cancer. Severe diabetes w/ vascular changes. Disturbances of lipometabolism. Jaundice or persistent itching during previous pregnancy. History of or current stroke, MI. Severe hepatic dysfunction. History of or current liver tumours. History of herpes or otosclerosis w/ deterioration during pregnancy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Discontinue immediately at 1st sign of migraine headache or more frequent occurrence of unusually severe headaches; sudden vision or hearing disturbances; thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic symptoms; feeling of chest pain & tightness; scheduled surgery (6 wk beforehand); immobilization; onset of jaundice, hepatitis, itching of whole body, increased epileptic seizures, significant increase in BP; pregnancy; unusual upper abdominal complaints not disappearing spontaneously w/in a short period. Not to be used in patients w/ thromboembolic disease; women w/ history of vasculitis, obesity, diabetes or HTN); known or suspected cervical or breast cancer; men. Diabetes, high BP, varicose veins, otosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, porphyria, tetany, chorea minor. History of phlebtis or tendency to diabetes. Smoking especially women >35 yr. Concomitant use w/ barbiturates, phenylbutazone, hydantoins, rifampicin, ampicillin. Insulin & antidiabetic requirements may change. Increased risk of thrombosis; venous & arterial thromboembolic diseases. Not to be used in patients w/ hepatic disease; known or history of liver tumours.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, gastric upset, nausea, feeling of tension in the breast, changes in body wt, libido or depressive mood. Brownish patches on the face w/ long-term use.
Drug Interactions
Impaired action w/ barbiturates, phenylbutazone, hydantoins, rifampicin, ampicillin.
