Dosage/Direction for Use
Fleet Enema: Adults: 1 bottle (118 mL, delivered dose) or as directed by physician. Children >2 years: ½ adult dose or as directed by physician.
Fleet Enema Paediatric: Dosage: Children over 2 years: One bottle (59ml delivered dose), or as directed by a physician. Do not administer to children under 2 years of age. If after the enema solution is administered there is no return of liquid, contact a physician immediately as dehydration could occur.
Administration: Directions for Use: Positioning: Left-Side Position: Lie on left side with knees bent, arms at rest.
Knee-Chest Position: Kneel, then lower head and chest forward until left side of face is resting on surface. Position arm comfortably.
Fleet Enema Paediatric: Positioning: Left-side position: Place child on left side with knees bent and arms resting comfortably.
Knee-chest position: Have child kneel, then lower head and chest forward until left side of face is resting on surface with left arm folded comfortably.
Administering Enema: Remove protective shield from rectal tip before using/inserting (Fleet Enema Paediatric): Hold bottle upright, grasping grooved bottle cap with fingers. Grasp protective shield with other hand, pull gently to remove.
With steady pressure, gently insert enema with tip pointing towards navel. Squeeze bottle until nearly all liquid is expelled. Remove tip from rectum.
Fleet Enema Paediatric: Discontinue use if resistance is encountered. Forcing the enema can result in injury.
Note: It is not necessary to empty unit/bottle (Fleet Enema Paediatric) completely. Bottle contains more than the amount of liquid needed for effective use. A small amount of liquid will remain in bottle after squeezing. Maintain position/keep child in position (Fleet Enema Paediatric) until urge to evacuate is strong (usually 2 to 5 minutes).
