Xylometazoline HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of nasal congestion due to common colds, upper resp allergies including hay fever & sinusitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr Apply 2-3 sprays in each nostril every 8-10 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patient who recently underwent neurosurgery.
Special Precautions
Do not use >3 doses in 24 hr. Not to be used continuously for >7 consecutive days. Prolonged use may lead to rebound nasal congestion & nasal mucosal damage (rhinitis medicamentosa). Patients w/ overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism); glaucoma; DM; heart or circulatory disease; HTN. Pregnancy & lactation. Do not use in childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Transient local nose & throat irritation, nausea, headache & nasal mucosa dryness. Systemic CV effects.
Drug Interactions
Do not use Xylomet if patient is taking or has been taking in the past 14 days MAOIs, TCAs & tetracyclic antidepressants.
