Indications/Uses
Relief of hyperacidity, dyspepsia & heartburn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1-2 hr after meals w/ a full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Edematous Na-retaining conditions eg, CHF, HTN, kidney failure, edema or liver cirrhosis. Restricted Na diet. W/ trouble or pain swallowing food, have bloody or black stools or vomiting blood.
Special Precautions
Avoid prolonged use. May increase bicarbonate or Na levels in the body.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal distension, belching, flatulence; metabolic alkalosis in patients w/ impaired kidney function; milk-alkali syndrome; tetany in patients w/ low blood Ca levels; Na overload.
Drug Interactions
May cause milk-alkali syndrome w/ milk or Ca (chronic administration). Decreased urinary excretion of flecainide, mecamylamine, quinidine, sympathomimetics, anorexiants; chlorpropamide, lithium, MTX, salicylates & tetracyclines. May increase absorption of naproxen.
