Powd for susp: Determine whether patient has had previous hypersensitivity reactions to other cephalosporins, penicillins, or other drugs before therapy is instituted. Exercise caution if to be given to penicillin-sensitive patients because cross hypersensitivity among β-lactam antibiotics may occur. Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs. Consider
Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) in all patients who present w/ diarrhea following antibiotic use. Discontinue ongoing antibiotic use not directed against
C. difficile if CDAD is suspected or confirmed. Institute appropriate fluid & electrolyte management, protein supplementation, antibiotic treatment, & surgical evaluation as clinically indicated. Superinfection. Use w/ caution if patient suffers from seizures; stop medication if patient has seizure while using cefdinir. Labor & delivery. Safety & efficacy have not been established in neonates & infants <6 mth.
