IV infusion Initially 100 mg, followed by 50 mg every 12 hr over approx 30-60 min every 12 hr. Duration of treatment: Complicated skin & skin structure infections or complicated intra-abdominal infections 5-14 days. Community-acquired bacterial pneumonia 7-14 days.
Not recommended for use in non-approved indications. Reports of anaphylaxis/anaphylactoid reactions. May cause fetal harm when administered in pregnant woman. May induce permanent dental defects (discoloration & enamel defects) & delay in ossification processes in fetuses, exposed in utero during the last half of gestation, & in childn <8 yr. Not to be used during pregnancy unless clinical condition of the woman requires treatment. Decide whether to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue/abstain therapy taking into account benefit of breastfeeding for the child & benefit of therapy for the woman.
Decreased clearance & increased AUC of R-warfarin & S-warfarin. Closely monitor relevant coagulation tests when co-administered w/ anticoagulants since tigecycline may prolong both prothrombin time & aPTT. Concurrent use w/ OCs may render OCs less effective.
