Contraindications

Do not use emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate tablets for pre-exposure prophylaxis in individuals with unknown or positive HIV-1 status. Emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate tablets should be used in HIV- infected patients only in combination with other antiretroviral agents.
