Dosage/Direction for Use

Treatment & prevention of recurrence depression Adult Initially 50 mg once daily, increased in increments of 50 mg at interval of at least 1 wk. Max: 200 mg daily.

Special Precautions

Avoid use in patients taking electroconvulsive therapy & w/ unstable epilepsy. Discontinue if seizures develop. Avoid concomitant use w/ MAOIs for at least 14 days prior to initiation of therapy. Not to be used in severe hepatic or renal impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Dry mouth, GI disturbances (eg, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, constipation & diarrhea); anorexia & wt loss; anxiety, restlessness, nervousness & insomnia or drowsiness & fatigue; headache, tremor, dizziness, convulsions, extrapyramidal effects & sexual dysfunction.

Drug Interactions

Not recommended w/ alcohol. Concomitant use w/ other centrally acting medications. May cause higher incidence of 5-HT associated adverse effects w/ lithium & tryptophan. May cause a shift in plasma conc in co-administration w/ drugs that are highly protein-bound.
