Not indicated for acute painful syndromes. Re-evaluate continued treatment if no relief of symptoms is experienced after 2-3 mth. Patients w/ CHF or renal failure; those taking K supplements & K-sparing diuretics (eg, spironolactone, triamterene). Rule out the presence of other joint diseases. Carefully monitor the blood glucose levels in patients w/ type 2 diabetes & those who are overwt & have problems w/ glucose tolerance. Possible worsening of asthma symptoms in asthmatic patients. Severe hepatic or renal disease. Not recommended during lactation. Not to be administered in childn & adolescents <18 yr. Elderly.
Elevations in INR serum values & potentiation of anticoagulant effects of warfarin. May increase insulin resistance & affect glucose tolerance of antidiabetic medications. May reduce the effect of chemotherapy drugs eg, doxorubicin, etoposide & teniposide.
