Examine patients before starting treatment to exclude liver disease, pituitary or ovarian failure & neoplasms of the endometrium. Cause of infertility & any abnormal bleeding should be investigated. Possibility of multiple births. Prolonged courses of treatment are not recommended. Visual symptoms may occasionally occur during treatment. Ineffective in patients w/ primary pituitary or primary ovarian failure. Not a substitute for appropriate therapy of other conditions which may cause ovulatory dysfunctions (eg, thyroid or adrenal disease). Not a 1st line treatment for low wt-related amenorrhea w/ infertility; no value if high FSH blood level is observed following an early menopause. Record basal temp throughout all treatment cycles; discontinue therapy if pregnancy is suspected.
