Ca content: 50 mg (1.25 mmol), total nitrogen content: 36 mg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein in food of 40 g/day for adults ie, generally in patients w/ GFR 5-15 mL/min.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult (70 kg) 4-8 tab tid. Duration: As long as GFR is between 5-15 mL/min & simultaneously food should contain ≤40 g daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole. Do not chew or crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcemia; disturbed amino acid metabolism.
Special Precautions
Caution in phenylketonuric patients. Hereditary phenylketonuria.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
May cause or aggravate elevated serum Ca levels in concomitant administration of Ca-containing drugs. Reduce dose of Al hydroxide as uraemic symptoms improve w/ therapy. Drugs that form sparingly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines, quinolones, drugs containing Fe, fluoride & estramustine should not be taken at the same time w/ Nephrotor to avoid disturbed absorption; take an interval of at least 2 hr. Increased risk of arrhythmia w/ cardioactive glycosides due to elevated serum Ca levels.
