Hyoscine-N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Reduces spasms in urogenital tract, digestive tract (colics, ulcers & severe gastritis), in diagnostic procedures eg, gastroduodenal endoscopy. Cholinomimetic poisoning eg, cholinesterase inhibitor insecticides, reversal of muscarinic symptoms in mushroom poisoning.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV Adult 20 mg. Childn <15 yr 15 mg. Repeat after 30 min when necessary.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity reactions including bronchospasm & anaphylaxis due to Na metabisulfite content. Avoid alcohol consumption. Restrosternal pain due to increased gastric reflux. Seizure disorders; metabolic hepatic or renal impairment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dryness of the mouth w/ difficulty in swallowing, thirst, dilation of pupils w/ loss of accommodation & photophobia, increased IOP, flushing & dryness of the skin, bradycardia followed by tachycardia w/ palpitations & arrhythmias, urinary urgency, reduced tone & motility of GIT leading to constipation. Vomiting, giddiness, staggering. Central depression including drowsiness & fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced sedative effect w/ alcohol or other CNS depressants.
