Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply adequate layer to the affected area once daily for up to 4 wk. Max wkly dose: Not to exceed 100 g.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ known disorder of Ca metabolism; guttate, erythrodermic, exfoliative & pustular psoriasis; itch in genitals or anus. Conditions eg, viral (eg, herpes or varicella) lesions of the skin, fungal or bacterial skin infections, parasitic infections, skin manifestations in relation to TB or syphilis, perioral dermatitis, atrophic skin, striae atrophicae, fragility of skin veins, ichthyosis, acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, rosacea, ulcers & wounds. Severe renal insufficiency or severe hepatic disorders. Infants.
Special Precautions
Avoid application under occlusive dressings due to increase in systemic absorption; large areas of damaged skin or in mucous membranes or in skin folds; around the face, mouth, & eyes. Avoid treatment of >30% of body surface. Limit or avoid excessive exposure to either natural or artificial sunlight. Stop treatment if secondary infection worsens. Adrenocortical suppression or impact on metabolic control of DM may occur. Gradually w/draw therapy, reduce frequency of application, or substitute w/ less potent corticosteroid if hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression is documented. Risk of generalized pustular psoriasis or of rebound effects when discontinuing treatment. Increased risk of local & systemic corticosteroid effects w/ long-term use. Risk of local skin reactions (eg, contact dermatitis), or irritation to the eyes & mucous membranes. Should only be used during pregnancy when potential benefit justifies potential risk. Caution during lactation. Caution in elderly. Calcipotriol: Hypercalcemia may occur if max wkly dose of 100 g is exceeded.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concurrent treatment w/ other steroids on the scalp. Avoid concurrent administration w/ salicylic acid as it may decrease the effect of calcipotriol.
