Description
Each gram contains: Clotrimazole, USP 10 mg (1%), Anhydrous Beclometasone Dipropionate 0.25 mg (0.025%), Gentamicin sulfate 1 mg (0.1%).
Indications/Uses
Clotrimazole + Beclometasone Dipropionate + Gentamicin Sulfate (Combiderm) Cream offers three agents with distinct pharmacologic effects and is suitable for treatment of inflammatory and allergic dermatoses threatened or complicated by bacterial and/or common fungal infections. Beclometasone dipropionate exerts powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic and anti-allergic properties. Gentamicin sulfate offers a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against most skin pathogens. Clotrimazole possesses a broad-spectrum anti-fungal activity covering a wide range of fungal organisms implicated in skin infections. It also covers some bacterial species.
Clotrimazole + Beclometasone Dipropionate + Gentamicin Sulfate (Combiderm) Cream is indicated for topical use in a wide range of eczemas and other inflammatory and allergic dermatoses where secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection is present or suspected. These conditions include inguinal dermatoses, chronic dermatitis, erythrasma, eczematoid dermatitis, dyshidrosis, contact dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, pustular acne, follicular dermatitis, intertrigo, impetigo, etc. Clotrimazole + Beclometasone Dipropionate + Gentamicin Sulfate (Combiderm) Cream is also useful in Tinea infections, particularly Tinea pedis, Tinea cruris and Tinea corporis where secondary bacterial infection is often seen along with pronounced eczema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration: A thin layer should be applied to cover completely the affected area. The frequency of application is two to three times daily. For some patients, adequate maintenance therapy may be achieved with less frequent application.
Contraindications
This formulation should not be used in skin tuberculosis, chicken pox, herpes simplex, measles, vaccinia, syphilitic skin lesions and in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Special Precautions
Prolonged use of topical antibiotics occasionally may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible micro-organisms. If this occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids or gentamicin will be increased if extensive body surface areas are treated or if occlusive dressings are used. Applications of gentamicin to open wounds or damaged skin should be avoided.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Usage During Pregnancy: This formulation is not to be used in large amounts or for prolonged periods during pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Reported adverse reactions with the use of topical steroids include burning, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis and acneiform eruptions. Side effects seen more frequently with occlusive dressing include maceration, skin atrophy, striae and miliaria. Gentamicin may produce transient irritation that usually does not require discontinuation of treatment. Reported adverse reactions with the use of topical clotrimazole include erythema, stinging, blistering, peeling, edema, pruritus, urticaria and general irritation of the skin.
