Indications/Uses
750 mg: Used in the treatment of susceptible infections like bone and joint infections, bronchitis, gonorrhea, meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, skin infections surgical infections, and urinary tract infections.
1.5 g: This drug is indicated for the treatment of patients with infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms in the following diseases: Respiratory tract infections and ear, nose and throat (ENT) infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including ampicillin-resistant strains), Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase-producing and non-producing strains), Streptococcus pyogenes, and Escherichia coli, including otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis with infection, bacterial pneumonia, lung abscess and postoperative pulmonary infection.
Urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp., including pyelonephritis, cystitis and asymptomatic bacteriuria.
Skin and skin structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase producing and non-producing strains), Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp and Enterobacter spp., including cellulitis, erysipelas, peritonitis and traumatic infection.
Septicemia caused by Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase-producing and non-producing strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae (including ampicillin-resistant strains), and Klebsiella spp.
Meningitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae (including ampicillin-resistant strains), Neisseria meningitidis, and Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase producing and non-producing strains).
Gonorrhea: Uncomplicated and complicated gonorrhea due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae (penicillinase producing and non-producing strains), especially for the patients in whom penicillin treatment is not recommended.
Bone and joint infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinase producing and non-producing strains).
The preoperative prophylactic administration of this drug may prevent the growth of susceptible disease-causing bacteria and thereby may reduce the incidence of certain perioperative and postoperative infections in patients undergoing surgical procedures (e.g. abdominal and pelvic surgery, orthopedic surgery, cardiac, lung, esophagus or vascular surgeries, and total joint arthroplasty) that are classified as clean-contaminated or potentially contaminated procedures.
