Meclizine HCl
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of nausea, vomiting or dizziness associated w/ motion sickness.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Daily dose should be taken 1 hr before travel starts for 24-hr protection & interval should be ≥4 hr if additional dose is needed. 25 mg Adult & childn ≥11 yr 1-2 tab. 12.5 mg Childn ≥11 yr 2 tab, 5-10 yr 1 tab.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Tab may be chewed or swallowed whole w/ or w/o water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients taking MAOI antidepressant. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ difficulty in breathing & those w/ difficulty in urination due to enlargement of prostate gland. Patients taking antidepressant, alcoholics or those who regularly ingest alcohol in excess. Patients w/ increased pressure in the eye, asthma, emphysema, chronic pulmonary disease & those taking sedatives & tranquilizers. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth, constipation, headache, upset stomach.
Drug Interactions
May increase drowsiness w/ alcohol, sedatives, anti-allergic drugs & tranquilizers.
