Aluminium hydroxide and Magnesium hydroxide are combined in this medicine.
Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide helps neutralise stomach acids. It is used to relieve symptoms of heartburn (burning pain in your chest caused by food or acid from your stomach that backs up into your mouth), indigestion, and inflammation of the stomach.
This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
Take Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take this medicine after meals and at bedtime, or as instructed by your doctor.
Available preparations of Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide may vary between countries. Ask your doctor or pharmacist on how to properly take your medicine.
If you are taking the oral suspension, shake the bottle well before you take the medicine to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Alert your doctor if you have severe kidney disease as Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- low phosphorus diet
- mild to moderate kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide to a child or the elderly. Children and elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
Inform your doctor if your symptoms persist or do not get better.
Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide may cause any of the following side effects: diarrhoea, stomach pain, and constipation.
If you will be taking this medicine for a long time, inform your doctor quickly if you experience loss of appetite, uneasiness, and muscle weakness.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- antibiotics e.g. tetracycline, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, ciprofloxacin
- medicines for malaria (a disease characterised by chills, fever and sweating that is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito) e.g. chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine
- anti-inflammatory medicines e.g. dexamethasone
- medicines for HIV infection e.g. raltegravir, elvitegravir
- medicines for TB (a lung infection known as tuberculosis) e.g. rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol
- NSAIDs (medicines for pain and inflammation) e.g. indometacin, diflunisal
- medicines that reduce stomach acid production e.g. ranitidine, cimetidine
- ketoconazole (medicine to treat fungal infection)
- rosuvastatin (cholesterol-lowering medicine)
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
