Monnax/Monnax Plus

Monnax Symptomatic relief of hyperacidity. Monnax Plus Chewable tab: Reduction of gastric hyperacidity. Relief of bloating commonly associated w/ hyperacidity & other conditions. Adjunctive treatment of peptic ulcer. Oral susp: Symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated w/ peptic ulcer, gastritis, esophagitis & dyspepsia. Antiflatulent to alleviate the symptoms of gassiness including post-op gas pain associated w/ hyperacidity. Adjunct to H₂-blockers or PPIs for rapid relief of ulcer symptoms.

Chewable tab Adult 1-2 tab. Oral susp 10-20 mL qid.

Should be taken with food: Chewable tab: May be chewed then swallowed w/o water or swallowed whole w/ water. Take 1 hr after each meal & at bedtime. Oral susp: Take 20 min-1 hr after meals & at bedtime.

Patients suffering from kidney failure. Chewable tab: Hypersensitivity. Patient w/ kidney disease; intestinal obstruction; appendicitis; fecal impaction; gastric outlet obstruction; phosphate depletion & low serum phosphate; osteomalacia. Not to be used during pregnancy unless considered essential.

Not to be used during pregnancy unless considered essential. Chewable tab: Patients on low Mg diet. Avoid taking any other medicines w/in 2 hr before or 2 hr after administration. Do not take at max doses for >2 wk in a row. Breastfeeding. Do not give to childn <12 yr. Oral susp: Do not take >80 mL in a 24-hr period or use max dose for >2 wk. May cause constipation. May lead to phosphate depletion syndrome, particularly in patients on low phosphate diet eg, malnutrition. May cause central nervous depression in presence of renal insufficiency & should be used w/ caution in patients w/ advanced renal disease. Long-term exposure to high doses may lead to encephalopathy or worsen dialysis osteomalacia in patients w/ renal impairment. Avoid prolonged use in patients w/ renal failure.

Diarrhea or constipation. Chewable tab: Excessive doses may result in high Al & Mg blood levels in patients w/ kidney impairment.

Chewable tab: Decreased absorption of tetracycline & Fe. May decrease absorption of orally administered digoxin or indomethacin, INH, quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), ketoconazole. Antacid-induced changes in urine pH increase urinary excretion & decrease blood conc of salicylates eg, aspirin. Antacid-induced increases in urine pH may decrease excretion of weakly basic drugs (eg, quinidine, chlorpromazine, propranolol, diazepam) & increase excretion of weakly basic drugs (eg, phenytoin, pentobarbital, warfarin). Increased absorption of dicumarol, diazepam & pseudoephedrine. May decrease the rate of chlordiazepoxide absorption. Reduced bioavailability of bisphosphonates (eg, alendronate, etidronate, risedronate). Oral susp: May increase serum levels of quinidine. Al(OH)₃: May form complexes resulting in decreased absorption w/ tetracyclines, digoxin & vit. May prevent proper absorption of H₂-antagonists, atenolol, chloroquine, cyclines, diflunisal, digoxin, diphosphonates, ethambutol, fluoroquinolones, Na fluorine, glucocorticoids, indomethacin, INH, kayexalate, ketoconazole, lincosamides, metoprolol, neuroleptics, phenothiazines, penicillamine, propranolol, Fe salts.
