Tyloxapol
Indications/Uses
Accompanying treatment of various acute & chronic resp tract irritation/inflammation associated w/ viscous sputum formation. Encourage infectious ejection of sputum & reduce airway obstruction from excessive mucus plugging/conglomerates. Prevention & elimination of secretion stagnation in mechanical resp impairment eg, post-op, tracheotomy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn 3 mth to 3 yr Short inhalation Max: 5 mL/dose of 0.1% soln tds for 5-15 min up to 3 wk. Max total dose: Not >25 mL daily. Childn 3 yr to adult Short inhalation Max: 5 mL/dose of 1% soln tds for 5-15 min up to 3 wk. Max total dose: Not >25 mL daily. Continuous inhalation Duration: Limited to 1 hr. Max total dose: Not >25 mL daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pulmonary edema, fluid accumulation in lungs.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj. Severely disturbed resp tract mucus removal & secretion congestion occurs eg, colloid dysfunction, malignant cilia syndrome. Avoid increased resp activity & hyperventilation especially w/ closed masks. For single-use only.
