Indications/Uses
Ulcerative proctitis. 500 mg: Acute episodes of ulcerative colitis & anal canal inflammation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Insert one 500-mg supp tds or one 1-g supp once-bd into the rectum.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mesalazine, salicylates. Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use at 1st appearance of severe skin reactions eg, skin rash, mucosal lesions or any other sign of hypersensitivity; acute intolerance reactions eg, abdominal cramps & pain, fever, severe headache & rash occur. History of adverse drug reactions to sulphasalazine-containing prep. Patients w/ pulmonary disease eg, asthma; pre-existing skin conditions eg, atopic dermatitis & eczema. Determine blood tests (eg, differential blood count, liver function parameters & serum creatinine) prior to & during treatment. Ensure adequate fluid intake during treatment. Not to be used in renal impairment. Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescents.
Drug Interactions
Increased myelosuppressive effects of azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine or thioguanine. Decreased anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
