Indications and Dosage

Skin protectant
Adult: As 5% cream, 1.75% liquid body cleanser or 1% lotion: Apply to the affected area(s) as necessary. Available products and recommendations may vary between countries (refer to specific product guidelines).
Child: Same as adult dose.

Topical/Cutaneous
Head lice
Adult: As 4% lotion: Apply a sufficient amount to coat the dry hair and scalp completely, then leave on for at least 8 hours or overnight. Wash the scalp and hair using normal shampoo and rinse well with water. May repeat the treatment after 7 days. Available products and recommendations may vary between countries (refer to specific product guidelines).
Child: ≥6 months Same as adult dose.

Adverse Reactions
Eye disorders: Eye irritation.
Immune system disorders: Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. rash, urticaria, generalised pruritus, breathing difficulties).
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Skin irritation, flaky or itchy scalp.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact with the eyes. Do not apply to deep puncture wounds, animal bites, infected skin, or serious burns.
Monitoring Parameters
Assess for worsening of condition or if no improvement is observed within 7 days.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Dimeticone is used in various pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. It acts as an ovicide by interfering with the ability of the lice to excrete water and maintain water balance. It also forms a protective layer on the skin, acting as a barrier against moisture loss and as a shield against chemical irritants and repeated hydration.
