Dimeticone is used to prevent or relieve dry, cracked, flaky, or itchy skin, and other minor skin irritations such as diaper rash.
This medicine may also be used to treat head lice and their eggs.
Apply Dimeticone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or over a larger area than instructed by your doctor.
Different formulations of this medicine may be available in certain countries. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to properly use your medicine.
If you are using the skin cream or lotion to prevent or relieve certain skin problems, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Clean and dry the affected area before application.
- Rub the cream or lotion gently on the skin until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
- Wash your hands after using.
- Replace the cap of the tube.
If you are using the hair and scalp lotion or solution to treat head lice, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Apply a sufficient amount of lotion or solution onto dry scalp and hair. Rub gently and thoroughly to completely cover the scalp and towards the tips of the hair.
- Allow your hair to dry naturally, leaving the lotion or solution on for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Use regular shampoo to wash your hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly with water and let your hair dry.
- Wash your hands after using.
Avoid contact with the eyes. Rinse immediately with water if it gets into your eyes. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Do not apply on broken skin, burns, or open wounds.
Do not use this medicine for any conditions other than what is prescribed by your doctor.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens during treatment.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Dimeticone to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.
If you are using the hair and scalp lotion or solution to treat head lice, avoid exposing your hair to open flame, smoking or other sources of ignition during and immediately after applying Dimeticone.
How can I prevent lice infestation at home?
- Avoid direct hair-to-hair contact with an infested person.
- Avoid contact with the infested person's belongings such as combs, hair accessories, hats, towels, clothing, and bedding.
- Clean and vacuum the room of an infested person and machine-wash and dry-clean all his/her clothing and bedding.
- If you are a close contact of the infested person, seek treatment immediately.
Dimeticone may cause any of the following side effects: skin irritation, eye irritation, and itching or flaking of the scalp.
If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor immediately. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Do not freeze.
Protect from excessive heat.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
