Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone.
White with peppermint flavored suspension.
Each 15 ml contains: Aluminum Hydroxide Gel equivalent to Aluminum Hydroxide 918 mg, Magnesium Hydroxide 300 mg, Simethicone 60 mg.
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: Pharmacological actions: BELCID has an action of antacid, antiflatulence and demulcent. BELCID acts by neutralizing the gastric acid and also has antifoaming action.
Mechanism of actions: The clinical use of antacids is based on their ability to increase the pH of gastric secretions: Aluminum hydroxide oroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid to form aluminum chloride and water. Magnesium hydroxide rapidly reacts with hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and water. Simethicone acts by coagulating the mucus-surrounded gas bubbles in the GI tract and expelling them.
Pharmacokinetics: Aluminium hydroxide or oxide is slowly solubilized in the stomach after neutralizing hydrochloric acid to form aluminum chloride, about 17-30% of the aluminum chloride is absorbed and is rapidly excreted by the kidney in patients with normal renal function.
Magnesium hydroxide neutralizes hydrochloric acid in the stomach from magnesium chloride and about 15-30% of the magnesium chloride is absorbed and is rapidly excreted by the kidney in patients with normal renal function.
Simethicone is not absorbed from GI tract and is excreted unchanged in feces.
BELCID is used as an antacid, antiflatulence and demulcent in gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, and used in the symptomatic relief of peptic and duodenal ulcer pains.
Recommended Dose: 1 tablespoonful, 4 times daily, 1 hour after meals and at bedtime or as directed by a physician.
Route of Administration: Oral.
Symptoms and Treatment of Overdose: No symptoms of overdosage have been reported. Should they occur, symptomatic treatment should be provided.
Should not be used in patients with renal failure.
Should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
No adverse effects have been reported.
It may decrease the absorption of tetracycline, digoxin, indomethacin, iron salts when concomitantly administered. Therefore administration of these drugs should be spaced 1-2 hours from doses of BELCID.
It may increase the absorption of dicumarol which is an anticoagulant.
Store in dry place at temperature not exceeding 30°C.
A02AF02 - ordinary salt combinations and antiflatulents ; Belongs to the class of antacids with antiflatulents.
