Indications/Uses
Relief of discomfort in mild UTI. Symptomatic relief of dysuria & gastric hyperacidity. Helps to prevent urates crystallisation in gout therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dissolve in 200 mL water.
Contraindications
Hypernatremia, metabolic or resp alkalosis, hypocalcaemia, hypochlorhydria, Addison's disease, acute dehydration, heat cramps, overt & occult cardiac failure, severe myocardial damage. Not recommended in concomitant use w/ hexamine mandelate or hippurate therapy. Avoid concomitant use w/ quinolones. Severe renal impairment or renal failure.
Special Precautions
Not to be taken by patients on Na restricted diet. Peptic ulceration; heart failure, oedema, HTN, eclampsia &/or aldosteronism. Renal abnormalities &/or impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Stomach cramps, belching, flatulence; mild laxative effect; systemic alkalosis, hypernatremia.
Drug Interactions
Decreased therapeutic effect of chlorpropamide, lithium, salicylates, tetracyclines. Increased therapeutic effect of amphetamines, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine. Promoted development of Ca stones & hypernatremia w/ antacids. Increased Al absorption w/ Al-containing antacids w/ salts. Reduced urine solubility of ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin or ofloxacin.
