Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcer, moderate to severe reflux esophagitis; pathologic hypersecretory state related to Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or other malignancy conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Duodenal & gastric ulcer, moderate to severe reflux esophagitis 1 vial daily. Long-term therapy of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathologic hypersecretory condition Initially 80 mg daily. Doses >80 mg daily should be given in 2 divided doses. Elderly & patient w/ renal impairment Max: 40 mg daily. Severe hepatic impairment Adjust to 20 mg.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not indicated for mild GI complaints, ie, nervous dyspepsia. Patients unable to receive oral therapy. Rule out malignant gastric ulcer or esophageal malignancy prior to treatment. Monitor prothrombin time in patients receiving concomitant therapy w/ coumarin anticoagulants. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia; upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence; thrombophlebitis at inj site, peripheral edema; severe liver damage leading to jaundice w/ or w/o liver dysfunction; anaphylactic reactions; increased liver enzyme (transaminase, γ GT), increased triglyceride; increased body temp; arthralgia, myalgia; headache, dizziness, visual disturbances; depression; interstitial nephritis; allergic reactions (ie, rash, pruritus), urticaria, angioedema, SJS, erythema multiforme, photosensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ coumarin anticoagulants.
