Lamivudine
Indications/Uses
In combination w/ other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-infected adults & childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent ≤30 kg 300 mg (two 150-mg tab) once daily or 150 mg twice daily. Childn >3 mth & weighing 21-30 kg ½ tab in the morning & 1 tab in the evening, 14-21 kg ½ tab twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Monotherapy treatment, preventive treatment for risk of HIV transmission, moderate to severe renal impairment, pancreatitis, lactic acidosis, hepatomegaly & steatosis, severe immune deficiency. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hyperlactatemia, headache, nausea, vomiting, upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, alopecia, arthralgia, muscle disorders, fatigue, malaise, fever.
Drug Interactions
Trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole causes an increase in lamivudine plasma level; zalcitabine.
