Pinaverium bromide is used to treat spasms of the stomach or intestine associated with irritable bowel syndrome (a long-term disorder of the digestive system that involves a group of symptoms such as abdominal cramps, bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea).
This medicine is also used to relieve symptoms caused by gall bladder problems associated with bile secretion.
Take Pinaverium bromide exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take this medicine together with food or immediately after a meal. Take it with a full glass of plain water. Swallow it whole. Do not suck, chew or crush it. Try to take it at the same time each day.
Do not take it at bedtime or while lying down.
It is important to follow these instructions carefully. Pinaverium bromide may cause severe irritation to the gullet (food pipe) if not taken exactly as instructed. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- reflux disease (also known as "heartburn", a burning pain in your chest caused by food or acid from your stomach that backs up into your mouth)
- hiatal hernia (a condition when part of the stomach extends through the diaphragm)
- lesions or scars in the gullet (food pipe)
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
Pinaverium bromide may cause any of the following side effects: stomach pain, constipation, dry mouth, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and headache.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience severe irritation of the gullet.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
