Film-coated tablet 200 mg: White round film-coated tablets packaged in blisters.
Each tablet of Heptral 200 contains Ademetionine or S-adenosyl-L-Methionine 200 mg.
Film-coated tablet 400 mg: White oblong film-coated tablets packaged in blisters.
Each tablet of Heptral 400 contains Ademetionine or S-adenosyl-L-Methionine 400 mg.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Carboxymethylstarch sodium salt, Anti-caking agent (E551, E470(iii)), Glazing agent (Methacrylic acid copolymer), Colour (E171), Stabiliser (E1505).
Film-coated tablet 200 mg: Bulking agent (E460, E421).
Film-coated tablet 400 mg: Bulking agent (E460, E421, E570).
S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a derivative of the amino acid methionine and is a naturally-occurring substance distributed throughout the human body. It is present in all living cells and takes part in many biochemical reactions in the body and it is important for a large number of metabolic pathways in the body. Ademetionine is not easily available from typical dietary sources.
Heptral is used in adults for: Supporting healthy liver function and reduction of tiredness and fatigue; Supporting healthy mood balance.
This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Adults: Take 1 or 2 tablets per day or as directed by a healthcare professional. Benefits are most likely evident after 7-14 days and are maintained with continued use.
The maximum daily dose of 1600 mg (200 mg: 8 tablets; 400 mg: 4 tablets) should not be exceeded.
Heptral tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed.
For better absorption of the active ingredient and complete therapeutic effect, Heptral tablets should not be taken with meals.
Heptral tablets should be extracted from the blister package immediately before use. Do not use if blister package is broken or missing.
Cases of overdose with Heptral appear to be rare. Physicians should contact their local poison control centers. In general, people should be monitored and supportive care provided.
People with genetic defects affecting the methionine cycle and/or causing homocystinuria and/or hyperhomocysteinemia (e.g. cystathionine betasynthase deficiency, Vitamin B12 metabolism defect) must not use Heptral.
If the patient is sensitive or allergic to any of the inactive ingredients, do not use this product.
Some people may experience dizziness with the use of Heptral. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery until reasonably certain that Heptral therapy does not affect their ability to engage in such activities.
Before using this product, the patient must be advised if he/she is taking prescription psychiatric medications.
People with bipolar disorder (maniac-depressive illness) should not use Heptral unless under medical supervision.
This product may cause anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.
Use in Children: Heptral is not recommended for use in children.
If the patient is pregnant or nursing, Heptral should not be used unless under medical supervision.
Ademetionine can sometimes cause nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence, dizziness and headache.
Allergic reactions may occur. These include rash, pruritus, urticaria and rarely throat and face swelling.
Patient must be advised if he/she experiences any side effects. This may include any possible side effects not listed here.
