Tổng quan

Neuropathic pain arises as a consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory pathway of the peripheral and/or central nervous system.
It is described as pain that is burning, stabbing, shooting, electrical-like, or mimicking pins and needles or insects crawling, which may be constant or paroxysmal.
A thorough history and physical examination are required to confirm the presence of a neuropathic pain syndrome and also an important step in reaching an etiologic diagnosis for neuropathic pain.
The selection of a particular drug will depend on the experience of the clinician and patient, along with the expected adverse reactions.
