Indications/Uses
Prevention of premature LH surges in women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH) for assisted reproduction techniques (ART).
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC 0.25 mg once daily, starting on day 6 of FSH administration. COH w/ FSH May start at day 2 or 3 of menses. High responders Starting treatment on day 5 may prevent early LH rise.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ganirelix, gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or any other GnRH analogue. Moderate or severe renal or hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity reaction is suspected. Not advised in women w/ severe allergic conditions. Anaphylaxis (including anaphylactic shock), angioedema, & urticaria. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) during or following ovarian stimulation; symptomatically treat w/ rest, IV infusion of electrolyte soln or colloids & heparin. Increased incidence of ectopic pregnancies in infertile women w/ tubal abnormalities undergoing assisted reproduction particularly IVF; congenital malformations after ART. Women weighing <50 kg or >90 kg.
Adverse Reactions
Local inj site skin reactions (predominantly redness w/ or w/o swelling), malaise; headache; nausea. Pelvic pain, abdominal distension, OHSS, ectopic pregnancy & spontaneous abortion.
