Each capsule contains the equivalent of 400 mg Glucosamine.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Magnesium stearate, gelatin (capsule) and titanium dioxide (E 171).
Mechanism of action: Glucosamine is an important component of healthy joint tissues.
Bio-Glucosamine capsules work by relieving pain and improving mobility in the affected joint(s) of person with mild to moderate osteoarthritis.
Bio-Glucosamine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of osteoarthritis.
The usual dosage for all adults, including the elderly, is one capsule three times daily (equivalent to 1200 mg of Glucosamine). Alternatively, the full daily dosage can be taken on a single occasion.
Bio-Glucosamine can be taken with food or beverages.
The clinical effect of Bio-Glucosamine capsules is usually evident with four weeks of starting treatment.
Bio-Glucosamine capsules should not be taken by children.
If the patient forgot to take Bio-Glucosamine capsules on one day, do not take a double dose the following day.
Tell the doctor, nursing staff or pharmacist if the patient thinks that the patient has taken too many Bio-Glucosamine capsules.
Allergy to shellfish, as the active ingredient is extracted from shellfish.
Sensitivity to the active ingredient or to one or more of the excipients.
Keep the capsule out of light and reach of children.
Do not take the capsules after the expiry date which is clearly marked on the packing.
The patient suffers from joint disease. The patient should consult the doctor in order to exclude the presence of joint diseases that may require a different treatment.
The patient suffers from diabetes mellitus. The blood sugar level will need to be carefully monitored whilst taking these capsules.
The patient suffers from reduced kidney and/or liver function.
The patient is breast-feeding, pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
The patient is taking any other medicines for any other conditions, including those that the patient buys without a prescription.
Like all medicines, Bio-glucosamine capsules may cause unwanted effects, so called side effects, in certain people. The most common effects reported (experienced by up to 10% of people) include indigestion, stomachache, nausea (feeling sick), constipation, diarrhea, headache and tiredness. Less common effects (experienced by up to 1% of people) include flushing, itching and rash development.
If the patient notices any of these effects, or experience any other unusual effects, please tell the doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. It will help if the patient makes a note of the experience, when it started and how long it lasted.
