Why do I need this medicine?
Tolnaftate is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, such as ringworm, jock itch and athlete's foot.

This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.
How do I use this medicine?
Apply Tolnaftate exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as a cream, ointment, powder, solution, or liquid/powder spray.

If you are using the cream, ointment, powder or solution, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
  3. Apply a thin layer of cream, ointment, powder or solution gently on the affected area(s) until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube or bottle.
If you are using the liquid or powder spray, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
  3. Shake the spray can well and point the nozzle over the affected area.
  4. Spray a thin layer directly onto the affected area(s) from a distance of 10-15 cm away. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  5. Wash your hands after using.
  6. Replace the cap of the spray can.
Avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes and mouth. Rinse immediately with water if it gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the type and severity of your infection.

Use Tolnaftate at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of this medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose to make up for a missed dose.

If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use Tolnaftate if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Tolnaftate is not recommended for the treatment of fungal infections of the nail or scalp.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.

Maintain good hygiene as this is important in managing fungal infections.

When used for athlete's foot, wear well-fitting and ventilated shoes. Change your socks and shoes at least once daily.
What side effects could I experience?
Tolnaftate may cause any of the following side effects: rash, itching, or irritation at the application site.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Protect from light and excessive heat.

The liquid/powder spray is flammable. Keep the spray can away from direct sunlight or open flames. Do not puncture, incinerate or expose it to temperatures >49°C.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
