Complementary, symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in infants (>3 mth) & childn when oral rehydration & usual support measures are insufficient to control the clinical condition.
Recommended dose: 1.5 mg/kg/dose (corresponding to 1-2 sachets) tds. Childn >27 kg Two 30 mg tds; 13-27 kg One 30 mg tds; infant 9 to <13 kg Two 10 mg tds; <9 kg One 10 mg tds. Treatment should be continued until 2 normal stools are recorded. Treatment should not exceed 7 days.

Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be mixed w/ food or dispersed in a glass of water or into a feeding-bottle. Mix thoroughly & take immediately after prep.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients who have reported angioedema w/ ACE inhibitors (eg, captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, perindopril, ramipril). Fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency.
Monitor regular feeding (including breastfeeding) & adequate fluid intake. Do not administer in the presence of bloody or purulent stool & fever. Not recommended in antibiotic-associated diarrhoea & chronic diarrhoea. Diabetes. Do not administer in cases of prolonged or uncontrolled vomiting. Stop immediately when experiencing severe skin reactions. Hypersensitivity/angioedema may occur at any time during therapy. Patients w/ history of angioedema unrelated to racecadotril therapy may be at increased risk of angioedema. Childn w/ renal or liver impairment. Do not administer in infant <3 mth.
