Erythromycin ethylsuccinate.
Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) contains: Erythromycin (as ethylsuccinate) 200 mg.
For upper and lower respiratory tract, gastro-intestinal tract, genito-urinary tract, skin and soft tissues and other infections caused by susceptible organisms. Pre and post dental operative procedures particularly in patients where penicillin allergy exist.
1-2 years: ¼ to ½ teaspoon (1.25 to 2.5 mL).
2-6 years: ½ to 1 teaspoonful (2.5 to 5 mL).
6-12 years: 1 to 1½ teaspoonful (5 to 7.5 mL).
Two to three times daily or as prescribed by the physician.
Direction for Reconstitution: To make up to 60 mL add 42 mL of water and shake well until the powder are evenly suspended. The reconstituted suspension is stable for one week at room temperature and 2 weeks under refrigeration.
Concomitant use of CYP3A inhibitors like nitroimidazole-antifungals can cause increased serum levels of erythromycin and probably increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmia. However, concurrent use of diltiazem or verapamil with erythromycin should be avoided by persons at risk for heart irregularities or those long QT manifestations.
Erythromycin should not be given to patients with impaired liver function or to patients who have developed jaundice or other symptoms of liver toxicity during previous treatment with erythromycin.
