Indications/Uses
Benign prostatic hyperplasia to relieve symptoms of urinary obstruction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Best taken on an empty stomach. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush/open.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patient w/ history of orthostatic hypotension, severe hepatic insufficiency.
Special Precautions
Syncope. Perform digital rectal exam & determination of prostate specific antigen (PSA) prior to & during treatment at regular intervals. Patients w/ orthostatic hypotension, severe hepatic & renal insufficiency (CrCl <10 mL/min). Discontinue use 1-2 wk prior to cataract surgery. Closely monitor BP & heart rate. Do not use in women, childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Asthenia; blurring of vision, dry mouth, rhinitis; rash, pruritus, urticaria, angioedema; dizziness, insomnia, headache, drowsiness, syncope; palpitations, orthostatic hypotension, pedal edema; constipation, diarrhea, nausea & vomiting; abnormal ejaculation, priapism.
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine may result in a moderate increase in plasma levels of tamsulosin. Diclofenac or warfarin may increase elimination rate. Enhanced hypotensive effect when given concurrently w/ other α-adrenergic blockers, anesth agents, Ca channel & β-blockers. Antihypertensives, furosemide.
