Chlorhexidine gluconate, ethanol.
Chlorhexidine Gluconate Solution BP 2.5% v/v Equivalent to Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.5% w/v, Ethanol 70% v/v, Sunset yellow.
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: The Chlorhexidine/Alcohol skin antiseptic is toxic to bacteria by dehydrating the cell. It is a broad spectrum antibacterial and antiviral agent. The Chlorhexidine/alcohol skin antiseptic is absorbed through the bacterial cell wall obstructing its permeability. It interferes with the physiological activity of the cell leading to its destruction. Chlorhexidine/alcohol skin antiseptic is active against gram positive and negative bacteria. It is also active against some lipophilic viruses.
Pharmacokinetics: Because of its cationic nature, a Chlorhexidine binds strongly to skin, mucosa and other tissues and is thus very poorly absorbed. No detectable blood levels have been found in man following oral use and percutaneous absorption, if it occurs at all, is insignificant. Retention and uptake kinetics and factors influencing the pharmacokinetics.
Chlorhexidine appears to be very poorly absorbed.
Rapid hand Antisepsis and Skin antisepsis.
Directions for use: Use Undiluted.
For Rapid Hand Antisepsis: Dispense 3-4 mL of Saniscrub E to moisten hands and fingernails, rub vigorously over all surfaces for 30 seconds.
For surgical Hand Antisepsis: Dispense 6 mL of Saniscrub E in hands and rub on hands and forearms for 1.5 to 3 minutes giving particular attention to the fingertips and areas around the nails.
For Skin Antisepsis: Apply Saniscrub E on operative and pre-operative skin area (to be treated) allow to dry (up to 30 sec) before procedure. Paint skin 2 to 3 times for optimum results.
Saniscrub E is contra-indicated for persons who have previously shown a hypersensitivity to its active components. However, such reactions are extremely rare.
Keep away from naked flame, source of heat, open live electric wire etc. being inflammable.
Avoid direct contact with eyes and ears.
There is no evidence of any adverse effects on the foetus arising from the use of Saniscrub E as a hand rub during pregnancy and lactation. Therefore no special precautions are recommended.
Irritative skin reactions can occasionally occur.
Generalized allergic reactions have also been reported but are extremely rare.
Avoid storage with oxidizers, strong alkalis and strong acids.
Store below 25°C. Avoid direct sunlight.
