Discontinue use if marked or persistent increases in serum-aminotransferase conc occur; markedly elevated CK levels occur or myopathy is diagnosed or suspected. Temporarily w/hold treatment in any patient w/ acute, serious condition suggestive of myopathy or predisposing to development of renal failure secondary to rhabdomyolysis eg, sepsis, hypotension, dehydration, major surgery, trauma, severe metabolic endocrine, & electrolyte disorders, or uncontrolled seizures. Not to be used in patients who already have unexplained persistently raised serum-aminotransferase conc. Patients who have history of liver disease &/or consume substantial quantities of alcohol; predisposing factors for myopathy eg, renal impairment, advanced age & inadequately treated hyperthyroidism. Avoid combination therapy w/ gemfibrozil. Risk of myopathy during treatment may be increased w/ concurrent administration of other lipid-lowering therapies, ciclosporin, or lopinavir/ritonavir.
