Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief from congested chests which may be associated w/ common cold. Increase the flow of natural secretions along the lower resp tract. Reduction of sticky phlegm.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult to childn 12 yr 1-2 cap every 4 hr. Childn 6 to <12 yr 1 cap every 4 hr. Syr Adult to childn 12 yr 10-20 mL every 4 hr. Childn 6 to <12 yr 5-10 mL every 4 hr; 2 to <6 yr 50-100 mg/dose. Max: 600 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Chronic cough eg, occurs w/ smoking or chronic lung disease eg, asthma or emphysema. Discontinue use if cough lasts >10 days, comes back or if it occurs w/ fever, rash or constant headaches. May produce color interference w/ certain lab determinations of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) & vanillylmandelic acid (VMA). Pregnancy & lactation. Cap: Contains sorbitol which may have a laxative effect or cause diarrhea.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea & vomiting. Hypersensitivity.
