Pelargonium sidoides extract helps relieve symptoms of common cold, such as sore throat, cough, and stuffy or runny nose.
Take Pelargonium sidoides extract exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a conventional tab, chewable tab, oral drops, syrup, or powder for oral solution.
If you are taking the conventional tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water.
If you are taking the chewable tablet, chew the tablet thoroughly in your mouth. Do not swallow it whole.
If you are taking the oral drops or syrup, shake the bottle well before you take the medicine to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the dropper or measuring spoon provided to measure your dose.
If you are taking the powder for oral solution, empty the contents of the packet into a glass. Add at least 4-6 ounces of hot or cold water. Stir to dissolve evenly in water then drink the solution immediately.
The dose of Pelargonium sidoides extract will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the severity of your condition.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Do not take Pelargonium sidoides extract if you ever had an allergic reaction (e.g. rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- severe liver disease
- severe kidney disease
as Pelargonium sidoides extract may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- persistent or long-term cough associated with smoking or lung disease such as asthma
- cough with excessive phlegm
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Pelargonium sidoides extract to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens within 7 days and if you develop a severe sore throat that lasts for more than 2 days.
Pelargonium sidoides extract may cause any of the following side effects: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, and heartburn (burning pain in your chest caused by food or acid from your stomach that backs up into your mouth).
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
- yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain, dark coloured urine, tiredness, swelling in the legs and ankles
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Protect from light and moisture.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
