Methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12).
Description
Each tablet contains: Methylcobalamin, USP 500 mcg.
Mecovit is a Methylcobalamin tablet.
Mecovit contains Methylcobalamin and is a kind of endogenous coenzyme B12.
Indications/Uses
Methylcobalamin (Mecovit) is for the prevention and treatment of Vitamin B12 deficiencies.
Dosage/Direction for Use
The usual adult dosage is 1 tablet three times a day given orally or as prescribed by the physician. It can be taken with or without food. The dosage may be increased or decreased properly depending on age and symptoms of the patient.
If the patient missed a dose, just take the subsequent doses at the recommended time or schedule. Do not double the dose unless recommended by the physician.
If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a doctor.
Overdosage
There is no known specific antidote. As in any case of overdose, treatment should be symptomatic and general supportive measure should be utilized.
Contraindications
Do not take Mecovit if the patient is allergic to Methylcobalamin or any of the other ingredients of this product. Patients currently taking other medications should consult their physician before taking Mecovit.
Special Precautions
It is advisable not to administer massive doses and prolonged use of Methylcobalamin for a long time to patients whose occupation requires the handling of mercury or mercury compounds. Do not take Mecovit if the patient is allergic to Methylcobalamin or any of the other ingredients of this product.
Consult a doctor if the patient is experiencing allergic reaction, taking other medications, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Adverse Reactions
Some individuals may experience digestive complaints like anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea and skin rash may rarely occur.
Drug Interactions
The absorption of Vitamin B12 from the gastrointestinal tract may be reduced by some drugs like aminosalicylic acid, histamine H2-antagonists and colchicines. Serum concentrations may be decreased by use of oral contraceptives. Many of these interactions are unlikely to be of clinical significance but should be taken into account when performing assays for blood concentrations. Parenteral Chloramphenicol may attenuate the effects of vitamin B12 in anemia.

Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C.
