Adult & childn >12 yr 3-4 tab every 4 hr. Max: 4 g/day. Childn 7-12 yr 2-3 tab every 4 hr, 4-6 yr 1-2 tab every 4 hr, 2-3 yr 1 tab every 4 hr. Max: 5 doses/day. Max duration of treatment: 5 days.
May be taken with or without food: Chew well before swallowing.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Avoid long-term use in patients w/ anemia or w/ heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease if taking w/ other medicines containing paracetamol.
Severe skin reactions including skin reddening, blisters, skin rash or hives, face, tongue or throat swelling, difficulty swelling, & unexplained wheezing or shortness of breath. Patients w/ G6PD. Severe liver damage may occur if an adult or child ≥12 yr takes >4 g in 24 hr; a child takes >5 doses in 24 hr. Concomitant use w/ other medicines containing paracetamol & ≥3 alcoholic drinks daily. Liver or kidney disease.
May increase risk of paracetamol-induced liver toxicity w/ chronic alcohol intake. May diminish ability to metabolize large doses of paracetamol w/ acute alcohol intake. May accelerate absorption w/ metoclopramide or domperidone. May reduce acceleration w/ cholestyramine. May reduce efficacy & increase susceptibility to the harmful effects to the liver w/ phenobarb, TCAs, & OCs. May increase risk of severe hypothermia w/ phenothiazines. Other medicines containing paracetamol (prescription or nonprescription).
