Indications/Uses

Prevention & treatment of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in CKD in connection w/ limited dietary protein intake of ≤40 g/day in adult, usually this applies to patients w/ GFR <25 mL/min.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult 70 kg 4-8 tab tid. Patient w/ GFR <25 mL/min Can be used long time w/ no >40 g daily (adult) of low protein diet.

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcaemia. Disturbed amino acid metabolism.

Special Precautions

Regular monitoring of serum Ca level, & serum phosphate level (in case of concomitant use w/ Al hydroxide). Ensure sufficient calorie intake. Hereditary phenylketonuria, contains phenylalanine. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.

Hypercalcemia.

Drug Interactions

May cause/aggravate elevated serum Ca levels w/ Ca-containing drugs. Disturbed absorption of drugs that form hardly soluble compd w/ Ca (tetracyclines, quinolones eg, ciprofloxacin & norfloxacin as well as drugs containing Fe, fluoride or estramustine). Increased risk for arrhythmia w/ cardioactive glycosides. Reduce dose if necessary when used w/ Al hydroxide.
