Sodium hyaluronate.
Description
Hylo-Gel is a sterile, phosphate- and preservative-free solution containing 2 mg/mL sodium hyaluronate, a citrate buffer, sorbitol and water for injections.
Action
HYLO-GEL contains the sodium salt of the hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in many organs of the human body including the eye.
Its special property is that it forms a regular, stable and long lasting, lubricating and moisturising film on the eye surface that is not easily rinsed off. This is so-called bioadhesive property ensures that the cornea and conjunctiva are protected and together with the physiologic tears, the eye lid slides over the surface of the eye. HYLO-GEL contains a higher amount of sodium hyaluronate which makes it more viscous and in so doing, the eye is provided with an intensive, soothing and long lasting moisturising film. Persistent or more severe symptoms are relieved and the eye is protected against further irritation.
Due to surgical interventions on the eye or after eye injuries, the physiologic tear secretion may be decreased. A continuous moisturising of the surface of the eye is necessary for the regeneration of the eye's tissues. By applying HYLO-GEL supplementary moisturising and lubrication is supplied to cornea and conjunctiva so that the physiologic wound healing process is optimal.
Being preservative-free, HYLO-GEL is usually very well tolerated.
Additionally, HYLO-GEL is free of phosphates so that possible complications due to the formation of insoluble deposits in the cornea are avoided.
Indications/Uses
Hylo-Gel is an eye drop for the intensive, therapeutic lubrication of the ocular surface in more severe and persistent dry eye sensation including treatment after surgical procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Only use HYLO-GEL if the sealing of the folding carton was intact before the first use.
HYLO-GEL should be used according to personal feeling and/or instructions given by the eye doctor.
Generally, instill one drop of HYLO-GEL three times a day into each eye. If necessary, it can also be used more frequently. If HYLO-GEL is used more frequently (eg, more then 10 times per day) consult the eye doctor. HYLO-GEL is suitable for long term treatment. Nevertheless as with all complaints should consult the eye doctor when symptoms persist.
If patient is using any other eye drop medication, allow at least 30 minutes after applying HYLO-GEL. HYLO-GEL should always be used last. Eye ointments should, however, always be administered after using HYLO-GEL.
Contraindications
Should not be used if patient has hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients.
Special Precautions
As HYLO-GEL is preservative-free, it is well tolerated even when used over extended periods of time. In very rare cases, hypersensitive reactions like burning or excessive tearing have been reported which stop immediately when the use of HYLO-GEL is discontinued.
HYLO-GEL relieves the symptoms in case of more severe or persistent dry eye sensation. If the eye doctor does not mind if patient is wearing contact lenses inspite of the disease, patient may use HYLO-GEL while wearing hard or soft contact lenses. However, in these cases, there may be some smearing on the contact lenses that will disappear after blinking a few times.
To avoid incompatibility reactions that are possible due to interactions between contact lens care products and HYLO-GEL, it is recommended to wait for about 30 minutes with the application of the eye drops after inserting contact lenses.
According to existing knowledge, HYLO-GEL can be used in children, pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Caution For Usage
Only use HYLO-GEL if the sealing of the folding carton was intact before the first use.
Remove cap before use.
Before the first application, the HYLO-GEL bottle with its tip down and press onto the bottom of the bottle until the first drop appears at the nozzle. The bottle is ready for further use. Hold the bottle upside down with the thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and the other fingers on the bottom of the bottle.
Support the hand holding the COMOD-bottle.
Lean the head back slightly, gently pull down the lower eyelid and apply a strong quick pressure on the middle of bottom of the bottle.
This activates the mechanism for the release of one drop. Because of the special COMOD valve system, size and speed of each drop are the same independently on how much pressure is applied. Slowly close the eyes to allow the fluid to spread evenly on the eye surface.
Replace cap immediately after use. Take care that the dropper tip is dry.
When applying the fluid, avoid any contact between the tip of the bottle and the eye on the skin.
The COMOD-bottle releases 10 mL of solution which is the equivalent of approximately 300 drops. For technical reasons, a small amount remains in the bottle at the end of exhaustion.
HYLO-GEL is suitable for long-term treatment.
One bottle HYLO-GEL should be used only by the same person.

Store below 25°C.
