Insulin requirements may be increased by substances with hyperglycemic activity, such as oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, or thyroid replacement therapy, danazol, beta stimulants (such as ritodrine, salbutamol, terbutaline).
Insulin requirements may be reduced in the presence of substances with hypoglycemic activity, such as oral hypoglycemics, salicylates (for example, acetylsalicylic acid), sulpha antibiotics, certain antidepressants (monoamine oxidase inhibitors, selective reuptake inhibitors), certain angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (captopril, enalapril), angiotensin II receptor blockers, beta-blockers, octreotide or alcohol.
Insulin Lispro protamine (Humalog Mix25 KwikPen) with other insulins has not been studied.
