Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr 1 inhalation of 250 mcg or 500 mcg bid.

Special Precautions

Discontinue when asthma symptoms of acute exacerbation occur. Avoid use as sole agent for asthma control. Risk of exacerbation in abrupt discontinuation. Sudden & progressive deterioration in control of asthma. Symptomatic decompensation w/ COPD. Avoid during pregnancy.

Adverse Reactions

Hypersensitivity. Salmeterol: fine tremors; palpitations, tachycardia, nervous tensions, headaches, peripheral vasodilation.

Drug Interactions

Salmeterol: Increase risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines. Fluticasone: May enhance metabolism & reduce systemic effects w/ barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone or rifampicin. Increase plasma conc w/ OCs or ritonavir. Excessive K loss w/ thiazides or furosemide.
