Discontinue when asthma symptoms of acute exacerbation occur. Avoid use as sole agent for asthma control. Risk of exacerbation in abrupt discontinuation. Sudden & progressive deterioration in control of asthma. Symptomatic decompensation w/ COPD. Avoid during pregnancy.
Salmeterol: Increase risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics or xanthines. Fluticasone: May enhance metabolism & reduce systemic effects w/ barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin, primidone or rifampicin. Increase plasma conc w/ OCs or ritonavir. Excessive K loss w/ thiazides or furosemide.
