Ferriprox should not be taken if: Patient has a history of hypersensitivity (an allergy) to the active substance or any of the other ingredients (see Description); patient has a history of repeated episodes of neutropenia (low white blood cell count); patient has a history of agranulocytosis (very low white blood cell count <0.5 x 109/L); patient is currently taking medication known to cause neutropenia; patient is pregnant or breast-feeding.
The way deferiprone causes neutropenia is not known. Patients should not take medicinal products known to be associated with neutropenia or those which can cause agranulocytosis.
